Retirement Celebration of Veteran Librarians

Library Veterans Honour and donation of New Computers and Air-Conditioning Unit for Coconut Grove Library in the Heart of Englerston

Minister of Transport and Aviation Glenys Hanna-Martin, M.P., for Englerston made a generous donation of computers and an Air-Conditioning Unit during a Recognition and Retirement Ceremony for Ms. Helen ‘ Sally’ Hutcheson, founding member and former Library Veteran Manager of Coconut Grove Library and retiring Library Manager, Mrs. Brenda Cynthia Sargent. The Coconut Grove Community, Library Board members, and Bahamas National Library Services, MOEST honour the two veterans with over 60 combined years of experience on Friday 31st March 2017. The computers are a welcome addition as many students visit the Coconut Grove Library to conduct research and complete Home work assignments. Presentations were also made by Honourable Cynthia ‘Mother’ Pratt and Mrs. Dorcas Bowler, Director of Libraries, National Library Services, MOEST.

Global MIL Week (30th October to 5th November 2016) was being promoted widely via National Library and Information Services Centre by brief lectures, posters, brochures, our local library, literacy Departments and  Library and Community Radio station Info-Light 90.1 in my country. We had an Open House in September for 2weeks  with combined activities of International Literacy Day and activities promoting GAPMIL beginning 8th Septemer with  number of activities culminating in two major events of Media and Information Literacy   Dialogue the 6th Media and Information Literacy  and Intercultural (MILID) Conference and GAPMIL 1st General Assembly to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 2nd-5th November 2016 under the theme "Media and Information Literacy, New Paridigms for Intercultural Dialogue".

The Commonwealth Writers of The Bahamas summer showcase

The summer program at The Elizabeth Estates Library was two-fold. Firstly, there was the summer writers’ workshop for children writers between the ages of 8-15 years old. This program was sponsored by The Commonwealth Writers of The Bahamas spearheaded by Mrs. Vera Chase.
